The following student-submitted blog was written by Jada Lindauer, a senior at Tell City Jr.-Sr.High School, and has been lightly edited.

After graduation, I plan to attend the University of Southern Indiana to major in nursing. Once I have finished my bachelor’s degree in nursing, I will then start my master’s program with hopes of becoming a nurse practitioner. I have been interning at Perry County Memorial Hospital in both the surgery and wound care departments. I have also had the opportunity to intern at the Tell City Clinic. Due to the wonderful opportunities offered by our community, I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to intern in multiple health care settings. Through this experience, I’ve gained more knowledge in my field of study, along with the clarity that this career choice is perfect for me.

I’ve spent my time at Tell City High School taking healthcare-related courses as well as participating in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) all four years. The two classes that have led me to choose a career in the medical field are anatomy and physiology and my school’s Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. These two classes required a lot of hands-on work as well as studying and memorization. Taking these classes in preparation for my future showed me that I am very capable of pursuing a career in the medical field. Through my years of study, I have learned that you will never learn unless you see and try. This stuck with me over the years. I began volunteering when I was a Freshman. I joined Key Club and participated in many community services such as cleaning the graveyards, putting up Christmas lights in City Hall, and helping with the fall fest. Through the National Honor Society, our community project involved helping with the Easter egg hunt at City Hall. My role during this project was to hand out coloring pages and help the children color pictures for the Easter bunny. Seeing the children amazed at the sight of the Easter bunny truly inspired me to always give back. I have always loved to give, and learning to help my community has helped show me how strongly I care for others. One of my life goals is to continue to enhance the lives of others by continuing to give back.

I have always been determined and dedicated. In the 6th grade, I decided to run cross country. This sport has taught me many life lessons. Cross country and track and field will forever be more than just sports to me. These sports have taught me to make every moment count, to never hesitate when I must act, and that I am never failing as long as I am trying. Throughout my years of study, I have worked hard to be able to graduate with my associate degree in general studies. I have followed the healthcare pathway, taking classes such as intro to health and careers, medical terminology, our school’s CNA program, and anatomy and physiology. A lot of my classes throughout high school have been dual credit through Ivy Tech. I am beyond grateful that I have had the guidance of my counselors and teachers; their guidance has led me to such amazing accomplishments. Over the summers, throughout high school, I have taken many classes to help me reach this goal. Best of all, my school pays for all of these classes and entrusts me to use my opportunities to my advantage. I may not be an honor student with four advanced placement classes on my transcript, I may not be the fastest girl in southern Indiana, but I will forever stand with my head held high because I’ve gave everything to my school work, my sports, my family, and most of all I have gave everything to aspire to become something great.
